Community Liaison & Facilitator
Be the bridge between StoryStrong and the people, places, and partners we serve in Flint.
Who we are
Rooted in Flint. Guided by the method.
StoryStrong is a community storytelling organization rooted in Flint, Michigan. Through intergenerational storytelling, conflict-resolution workshops, culturally rooted consultation, and community gatherings, we create spaces where people heal, connect, and reclaim their narratives.
We're a trauma-aware organization. We honor lived experience. We center dignity, agency, and belonging in everything we do — guided by the StoryStrong Method™: Speak from the Heart, Reflect, Find Strength, Connection, and Integrate & Share.
The role
A bridge, and a launching pad.
We're seeking a young man from — or deeply connected to — the Flint community who can show up in a church basement on Tuesday, a library meeting room on Thursday, and a senior living community on Friday, and make every person in the room feel seen. This is designed for someone hungry to grow with us — someone who sees this not just as a job, but as a calling to serve.
What you'll do
Show up in community
Represent StoryStrong at churches, libraries, senior homes, schools, and community centers. Build relationships. Listen. Connect.
Support programming
Assist with setup, participant engagement, and facilitation support — especially PIAP and SOS.
Be a trusted presence
Hold space with kindness. Make youth, elders, and families feel welcome and safe.
Light admin
Registration tables, sign-in sheets, follow-up calls, supply coordination, basic documentation.
Grow with us
Learn the method, shadow facilitators, and develop your voice. This role is a launching pad.
Who we're looking for
A narrow, intentional search.
Please review each requirement carefully before applying.
- 1Must be male. This is a specific role within our team structure and community-engagement model.
- 2Must be 18–25 years of age. We're looking for a young community liaison — someone early in their journey who can grow with StoryStrong over time.
- 3Must love the community — Flint and other underserved communities. A genuine, lived connection. This isn't a commute job; it's a show-up, know-your-neighbors, care-about-this-place job.
- 4Must be kind and compassionate. You don't need to be a counselor — but you need a warm, steady presence that makes people feel safe enough to share.
- 5Must love children — 8–10+ years working with kids (ages 5–18). Yes, we mean it. Mentoring, coaching, volunteering, tutoring, teaching, youth ministry, camp, after-school. If you're 22 and you've coached little league since you were 14, that counts. Show us the track record.
- 6Must be a collaborator. Not a lone wolf. You work well with teams, follow leadership, contribute ideas, and build trust with partners.
- 7Comfortable in diverse settings. Churches, libraries, senior homes, schools, community centers, outdoor spaces. You move with ease and respect across environments and generations.
- 8Must pass a background check. No exceptions. We work with youth and vulnerable populations. Safety is non-negotiable.
- 9Light clerical & administrative skills. Manage a sign-in sheet, send a clean email, track a supply list, keep basic records organized.
- 10Interested in growing with StoryStrong. Not a placeholder role — someone who sees the long game and wants to develop as a facilitator over time.
The intangibles
Who you are.
You lead with warmth. People feel comfortable around you within minutes.
You're culturally responsive. Not every community communicates the same way, and you respect that.
You're steady. You don't get rattled when plans change or a room gets heavy. You stay present.
Humble and confident. Humble enough to learn, confident enough to contribute.
You believe in stories. Not as entertainment — as healing, connection, and truth-telling.
It's about people. You understand this work is about people, not performance.
What we offer
We invest in people who invest in us.
Purpose-driven work
In a community that deserves to be seen and heard.
Mentorship & growth
Direct exposure to the method, facilitation, and community organizing.
A team that invests
We don't just place people in rooms. We develop them.
A real path forward & flexible scheduling
For the right person, this role is designed to evolve — across sessions, events, and program cycles.
